We are all aware of the no bullying policy promoted in most all of our schools today. But are our schools really doing enough to enforce this policy?
If you look at the recent video (below) of the hearing impaired school bus monitor from Greece, NY, the answer is an unequivocal no. Regardless of the punishment rendered to the offending children, this incident is one that should never have happened in the first place. Perhaps a more strict and severe punishment policy should be in place that is promulgated by our schools. Bus monitors, if the school is fortunate enough to have them, are on the buses for our childrens' safety. They should all at least be authorized to distribute instantaneous detention, subject to review, to offending children. As a society on a whole, we may be better off if we spend less time focused on "back to school" sales in early July and more time focused on the meaning of the word respect.
The silver lining to the story is that reportedly approximately $650,000 has been raised for the abused school bus monitor, so that she may retire if she so chooses.
