In the movie Apocalypse Now, Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore (played by Robert Duvall) may have had a strange love for the smell of napalm in the morning, but would he have loved the taste of "Agent Orange" in his food? As absurd as that sounds, it is now essentially true with the blessing of the USDA.
In the past, genetically modified foods contained toxic glyphosate sprayed on GM corn and other foods, in part in effort to stave off weeds. These "Round Up Ready" crops developed by the likes of Monsanto, were heralded to be the means to feed the world. But even though these GM crops had built in weed killer resistance, weeds managed to build up a resistance of their own and became "Super Weeds." Subsequently, the extremely toxic glyphosate which we all ingested with our GM foods, was no longer capable of doing its intended job. "Super Weeds" took over, yields were down instead of up and a GM label law war was well underway in the United States.
Notwithstanding, Dow has found a solution to the problem which has now been approved by the USDA for use in GM corn. That solution is that if toxic glyphosate isn't a strong enough poison to do the job, then add a reportedly even stronger poison 2, 4-D to the mix. There is just one small problem, in that 2, 4-D is a main ingredient in "Agent Orange!" Perhaps the USDA doesn't remember "Agent Orange" which was used in the Vietnam War and what it did to people including our soldiers. The smell of poison in the air is one thing, but do we really want to eat it in our food?
Countless people across the country have objected to the use of glyphosate in our food, largely due to the untold and unknown health risks associated with it. In that our federal government has seemingly failed to protect the American people in that regard, multiple states are fighting to pass GM food label laws to enforce our basic right to know what is in the food we eat. As if glyphosate wasn't bad enough, our government has now seen fit to allow the addition of 2,4-D to our food.
If this seems like a bad dream, then wake up and smell the poison in our food. We can no longer wait for our government to do the right thing, as it appears that the Biotech Industry and Big Pharma effectively run our country and wield more power than all three branches of government put together. Any corrective action our government may actually take in this matter, will be too little and too late. The American people can no longer afford to slumber in GM food bliss. We the people, must educate ourselves and take action ourselves in order to protect our children and grandchildren. Our only tangible recourse and remedy, is to stop buying all GM foods and stop supporting the companies that produce, manufacture, distribute and sell GM foods. Since our government refuses to pass the laws necessary to protect the American people, we must protect ourselves with the law of supply and demand. Over 60 countries around the world have laws in place recognizing the potential health dangers associated with GM foods. It's time the American people compel the United States to do the same.
