In our never ending quest to remain forever young, people will go to extremes and try almost anything to preserve their youth. This includes a wide range of things from anti-aging creams, exercise, plastic surgery to even eating Kale! However, there is a 69 year old Dutchman who now takes the proverbial cake in what has now become his legal quest to turn back time.
Emile Ratelband is a 69 year old Dutchman who describes himself as a "Young God" and has brought a lawsuit to change the date of birth listed on his birth certificate from 1949 to 1969. Ratelband essentially claims that he should be allowed to do so, on the basis that he identifies as being 20 years younger than he actually is. Further, that his doctors tell him he has the body of a 45 year old and as a 69 year old man he is subjected to age discrimination, which has reduced his chances in the job market and on Tinder. Ratelband submits in part, that if it is legal to change your sex based upon how one identifies and notwithstanding one's biological assignment, then it should be legal for him to change his age based upon his own age identification and that of his doctors.
Some people believe that Ratelband's lawsuit is nothing more than an exercise in legal frivolity, while others consider it an indictment of our current day state of affairs. Although it is difficult to conceive that Ratelband will succeed in his legal endeavor, it does open the door to testing the limits and boundaries on all things natural and otherwise. If one is allowed to effectively sue Father Time, who will the next defendant be?
