Just as we have put the "Delta Variant" predominantly behind us and we are returning to some sense of normalcy ahead of the Holiday Season, well orchestrated Paul Reveres have taken to the streets yelling "The Omicron Variant is coming, the Omicron Variant is coming." While this latest in a long list of variants may or may not be dangerous to New Yorkers, the fact remains that government officials have confirmed that this South African generated variant is not even in America. Notwithstanding, New York State's unelected Governor has declared a "State of Emergency."
Opponents believe that this declaration is premature and gives the unelected Governor the essentially unrestricted imperial-like powers of an Empress. Further, that since the Omicron variant is not currently in New York State or even the United States, the prerequisite imminent threat to make such a declaration doesn't exist. Therefore the unelected Governor's fear based action to seize omnipotence over the people of the State of New York is illegal. It is also reminiscent of the abuse of power the people of New York suffered under the prior Governor, who was forced to leave in disgrace with impending criminal charges.
Proponents of the unelected Governor's declaration, believe that it is proper in order to protect the people of New York. That the seemingly unlimited self-appointed powers to the Governor and loss of our rights and liberties is a necessary evil. Further, that those who do not agree are unable to comprehend or fully appreciate the threat we are under.
If unelected or elected Government officials are allowed to seize power stripping citizens of the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in an unjustified and unabated self-appointed fashion, the Constitution of the United States will become a worthless piece of paper. The devaluation of our country's founding principles will mutate into something even worse than the very tyranny we revolted against in 1776. It is time that we emulate the founding fathers of our country, who were great leaders and not mindless followers. It is American to speak truth to power. It is American to take a stand against tyranny. It is American to defend our inalienable constitutional rights. In order to survive, we must remain one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all!
