Perhaps one of the most prestigious legal titles that one may hold is that of Judge. In order to become a Judge one needs to, among other things, have an advanced education, a good professional reputation and plenty of political support. But how much do Judges make and who is the highest paid Judge?
One might think that a NYS Supreme Court Judge would be among the highest paid, but they average approximately $140,000 per year. Certainly, it is reasonable to believe that a US Supreme Court Justice is the highest paid, as they work in the highest court in the land. However, even a US Supreme Court Justice does not hold claim to the highest salary, as he or she averages approximately $210,000 per year.
Yes, the highest paid Judge in all the land is none other than Judge Judy Sheindlin. Judge Judy, with her special brand of television justice, makes an incredible $45 million per year! Just to put this into further perspective, the first president of the United States, George Washington, made $25,000 per year. Our current salary for the United States president is $400,000 per year. That means that Judge Judy makes 112.5 times the salary of the US president, who arguably holds the most prestigious and difficult job in all the world. What's wrong with this picture?
